SkinPen® Treatment Without an Add-On: No additional charge
Optional adjunctive treatments are not included within SkinPen’s FDA-cleared indications. Suitability, product selection and method of application must be assessed individually by a qualified healthcare provider.
Description
SkinPen® is a professional microneedling device that creates controlled microchannels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries activate the skin’s natural wound-healing response and support the production of new collagen and elastin.
Over time, the treatment can help create smoother, firmer and more evenly textured skin.
SkinPen® is FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and older. It is also cleared to improve neck wrinkles in patients with specified skin types. Other cosmetic uses should be discussed with your provider as part of a personalised treatment plan.
Benefits
Improves the Appearance of Acne Scars
Helps soften and smooth selected facial acne scars over a recommended treatment series.
Supports Collagen and Elastin Production
Activates the skin’s natural repair process to support gradual structural renewal.
Smooths Uneven Skin Texture
May improve the overall feel and appearance of rough or uneven-looking skin.
Softens Fine Lines
Collagen remodelling may gradually improve the appearance of selected fine lines.
Minimal Downtime
Most clients can resume their normal routine shortly after treatment, although redness, sensitivity and mild swelling may occur.
Suitable for a Wide Range of Skin Tones
SkinPen® is cleared for the treatment of facial acne scars across all Fitzpatrick skin types in adults aged 22 and older.
What to Expect
Treatment Time: Approximately 30–60 minutes, depending on the areas being treated and whether an additional service is included.
Comfort: A topical numbing product may be applied before treatment when clinically appropriate. Most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching, pressure or vibration.
Immediately After Treatment: The skin may appear red and feel warm, tight or sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn.
Downtime: Redness and sensitivity commonly improve within approximately 24–48 hours, although swelling, dryness, flaking or tenderness may last longer in some clients.
Results: Initial improvements in skin radiance and texture may become noticeable as the skin settles. Collagen remodelling develops progressively over the following weeks and months.
Treatment Series: A series of approximately three treatments spaced around four weeks apart may be recommended. The SkinPen® acne-scar study used three treatments on days 1, 30 and 60. Your treatment schedule will be personalised according to your skin and concerns.
Optional Adjunctive Treatments
Platelet-Rich Fibrin
PRF is prepared from a sample of the client’s own blood. The sample is processed to concentrate fibrin, platelets and other blood components.
Where offered, PRF must be prepared and applied using an appropriate sterile protocol. Combining PRF with microneedling is not part of SkinPen’s FDA-cleared use, and individual results cannot be guaranteed.
Platelet-Rich Plasma
PRP is also obtained from the client’s blood and processed to produce plasma with a concentrated platelet component.
Although PRP is offered alongside microneedling by some providers, the FDA has not cleared microneedling devices for delivering blood products into the skin. Your provider should explain the proposed method, evidence, potential benefits and risks before treatment.
PDRN
PDRN products contain purified polynucleotides and are marketed for supporting skin hydration and rejuvenation.
The regulatory status, formulation and intended use can differ significantly between products. The exact product must be reviewed by the treating provider before it is offered or applied to recently microneedled skin.

Important Safety Information
Possible treatment responses include redness, swelling, tenderness, tightness, dryness, flaking, itching, burning, pinpoint bleeding and temporary changes in skin colour.
Less common complications may include prolonged inflammation, infection, acne or cold-sore flare-ups, allergic reactions, scarring or changes in pigmentation.
A new sterile, single-use cartridge must be used for every client and every treatment session. SkinPen® is a prescription-use device and should be used by an appropriately qualified provider following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Results vary between clients. A personalised consultation is required to determine whether SkinPen® microneedling and any proposed adjunctive treatment are suitable for you.
